Data-Driven Decision Making Externship with CIYJ

A data-focused externship with the Center for Improving Youth Justice that analyzed two decades of juvenile facility records to surface measurable patterns in incidents, demographics, and outcomes.

Data AnalysisPythonData VisualizationStatistical Research

Overview

The externship worked with CIYJ's longitudinal dataset of youth and staff surveys, incident reports, demographic records, and outcome measures. The project established analytical boundaries for correlational work and then applied those methods to test long-standing assumptions in juvenile justice data. The work summarized what correlational analysis can and cannot reveal and produced a structured

What I've accomplished

I translated the externship brief into a practical analytic framework, defining what questions correlational analysis could answer, what its limits were, and how to treat CIYJ's multi-source dataset before exploring specific relationships.
