    Healthcare Operations & Consulting Externship

This externship explores how care coordination work in acute mental health settings can be designed, analyzed, and communicated as a customer-centric operational system. Externs study the case manager’s role at IMH to understand how workflows shape patient experience, surface hidden risks, and make invisible coordination work visible. Through structured analysis, process mapping, and dashboard prototyping, externs learn how operational clarity supports continuity of care, safety, and institutional decision-making.

Overview

This externship analyzed care coordination in an acute mental health clinic and produced concrete artifacts from a clinic case study. Work included a spreadsheet stakeholder map that grouped five stakeholder buckets, root-cause analysis of missed first outpatient follow-ups, decision-tree and flowchart visualizations of post-discharge follow-up, and a prototype dashboard that queued verification

Healthcare Operations & Consulting Externship

What I've accomplished

I produced a stakeholder map, root-cause diagrams for missed first outpatient follow-ups, a decision-tree and flowchart that added verification owners and calendar-day clocks, and a dashboard prototype that queues verification tasks and quantifies workload by role.

TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics Externship

A TruBridge externship in healthcare data analytics focused on working with public health datasets, statistical methods, and dashboarding to analyze county-level health and social determinants data.

Data AnalysisData VisualizationData Storytelling

Overview

The work analyzed the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps 2025 flat file and produced an analysis-ready county dataset. The project paired adult diabetes prevalence with children in poverty, documented preprocessing steps and derived stratification fields, and produced statistical output including a Spearman correlation and bootstrap confidence intervals.

What I've accomplished

I selected the County Health Rankings 2025 county flat file, paired adult diabetes prevalence with children in poverty, documented preprocessing and derived stratification fields, and produced a Spearman correlation analysis with bootstrap CIs on roughly 3,140 counties.

Project breakdown

Situation: the project needed a fit-for-purpose dataset. Task: find county-level data linking an SDOH and a health outcome. Action: evaluated sources and selected the County Health Rankings 2025 flat file. Result: committed to adult diabetes prevalence × children in poverty, with ~3,140 county…

I described the CHR&R 2025 CSV, noted it used two header rows, identified 3,204 total rows (3,152 counties), planned preprocessing (filter to counties, set v-code headers, coerce numerics), listed selected measures and expected complete-case count (3,100 counties) and derived stratification fields.

Situation: county-level diabetes and income were right-skewed. Task: select and run an appropriate bivariate test. Action: ran Spearman rho and bootstrapped CI, plus quartile medians and comparison to Pearson. Result: produced rho = -0.6491, 95% CI [-0.6710, -0.6260], quartile medians…
