Overview

The externship prototyped AI-driven document intelligence for pharmaceutical PDFs. The work analyzed document types and OCR failure modes, implemented Python data-cleaning and image preprocessing in Colab, and built extraction pipelines using PyMuPDF/pdfplumber with regex and layout heuristics. Deliverables included runnable Colab notebooks and sample extraction output.

What I've accomplished

I produced runnable Colab notebooks that demonstrate end-to-end document preparation and field extraction, catalogued document types and OCR issues, and implemented extraction code that outputs parsed fields from SDF PDFs.

Project breakdown

I analyzed a multi-document pharmaceutical file, catalogued types (spec sheets, CoAs, compliance statements), noted three date formats and inconsistent table structures, and described OCR challenges like watermarks, repeated footers, and misaligned table data that could break extraction.

The submission showed a completed Colab notebook that ran Python examples for data structures, control flow, functions, Pandas cleaning, JSON handling, text standardization, and basic image preprocessing for OCR improvement, with code and outputs.

The project processed SDF PDFs to locate and extract key fields, implemented parsing with PyMuPDF/pdfplumber techniques and regex anchors, and produced a runnable Colab notebook containing the extraction code and sample output.
