The project built an end-to-end AI document intelligence pipeline for pharmaceutical PDFs, combining OCR fallback, layout-aware extraction, chunking, embeddings, vector search, and open-source LLM experiments. Deliverables included a Gradio chatbot, FAISS indexes, comparative OCR and RAG evaluations, and a final integrated demo. The work was awarded Top Performer by Pfizer.

Gradio Chatbot with RAG IntegrationI built a Gradio-based RAG chatbot that answers questions from uploaded PDFs using a local Phi-4-mini-instruct model and FAISS-backed retrieval.

How AI Reads Pharmaceutical DocumentsI analyzed a pharmaceutical vendor documentation package and flagged format and extraction challenges relevant to AI processing.

Learn to Work with Python for AI-Powered Document ProcessingI cleaned and preprocessed CSV, JSON, and scanned-document images using Python tools to prepare them for AI-based document processing.

Data Extraction from Documents Using PythonI extracted and structured text and dates from multi-page SDF PDFs using PyMuPDF, then documented issues and heuristics for reliable field pairing.

Advanced OCR Comparison and Layout-Aware ExtractionI compared Tesseract, PaddleOCR, and EasyOCR on a pharmaceutical certificate and reported which engine best preserved field-value structure for downstream extraction.

Introduction to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)I built and evaluated a complete RAG pipeline for document retrieval using LlamaIndex, hybrid retrieval, and cross-encoder reranking.

Advanced RAG and Open-Source ExperimentsI ran comparative RAG experiments and open-source LLM evaluations, then recorded retrieval behavior and model outputs on a pharmaceutical SDF document.

Blob Processing, Classification, and RoutingI built a page-level segmentation and classification workflow that identified document boundaries and labeled each page by type for a bundled pharmaceutical PDF.
