Macquarie LEADS High School Externship

Overview

In this externship program, students will learn strategic consulting skills to analyze and evaluate challenges from non-profit organizations using consulting frameworks, in an overall effort to help them solve their important problems. Selected individuals will be paired with a specific non-profit organization and dive into their strategic problems, such as development, impact assessment, process improvements, talent engagement, communication, and strategic positioning. Throughout this externship program, professionals from PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) will provide mentorship and coaching.

The Experience

  • Learn about the strategy consulting process and how to help create value for a non-profit client based on their vision and mission
  • Research and develop an understanding of a given field
  • Analyze complex problems ranging from fundraising and development, stakeholder management, impact measurement, as well as use consulting frameworks to help identify problem areas and propose solutions
  • Learn to gather, analyze, and visualize data to inform problem areas and possible solutions
  • Create and deliver a compelling presentation to a non-profit client that incorporates valuable insights, trends, and recommendations

Qualifications

  • Ambitious undergraduate students with an interest in consulting, strategy, and non-profits. This program is for students who would like to understand the consulting profession while generating ideas to help impact non-profit organizations.

Overview

The Macquarie LEADS High School Externship is a dynamic learning and development program designed for historically under-represented and first-generation college-bound high school students.

Established in 2008, the Macquarie LEADS program helps high school students reach their educational, professional and life goals through a paid project based learning experience, training and mentoring by Macquarie employees.

In this program, you'll get a taste of different business careers, develop new skills, find mentors, and work on exciting projects, especially in areas like global markets and trade, asset management, infrastructure, and investing.

You'll dive into the exciting world of business, focusing particularly on how businesses can help create cleaner, greener energy. This experience is all about connecting what you learn in school to the real world, helping you build skills you'll use in college and beyond.

The Experience

During this externship, you will:

  • Conduct in-depth research into the green energy market, discovering the latest breakthroughs and who's making them happen.
  • Learn how businesses, like those in global markets, play a part in supporting green energy and solving environmental challenges.
  • Team up with other students to focus on a green energy area, combining your own research with group activities.
  • Engage in a final group presentation, showcasing your findings and the skills you've developed throughout the externship.

This experience will offer you a unique perspective on the business world, focusing on green energy, and link your classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios.


Qualifications

We are looking for motivated high school rising seniors who have a strong interest in business, demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and will commit to participating in the entire duration of the 5-week hybrid (virtual and in-person) program.

Students who are first-generation college-bound and/or from historically under-represented minority groups, are highly encouraged to apply.

This Externship is open to motivated high school rising seniors who are first-generation college-bound and/or from historically under-represented minority groups.‍

Geographical Eligibility

Students must be enrolled in high schools in Jacksonville, Philadelphia, or New York City.
