National Geographic Society & The Nature Conservancy Freshwater and Community Conservation Remote Externship for Coca-Cola Foundation Scholars

The Coca-Cola Foundation has partnered with National Geographic Society and The Nature Conservancy to provide scholars with unique access to this career-enhancing remote externship program.

Overview

In this externship program, students will learn strategic consulting skills to analyze and evaluate challenges from non-profit organizations using consulting frameworks, in an overall effort to help them solve their important problems. Selected individuals will be paired with a specific non-profit organization and dive into their strategic problems, such as development, impact assessment, process improvements, talent engagement, communication, and strategic positioning. Throughout this externship program, professionals from PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) will provide mentorship and coaching.

The Experience

  • Learn about the strategy consulting process and how to help create value for a non-profit client based on their vision and mission
  • Research and develop an understanding of a given field
  • Analyze complex problems ranging from fundraising and development, stakeholder management, impact measurement, as well as use consulting frameworks to help identify problem areas and propose solutions
  • Learn to gather, analyze, and visualize data to inform problem areas and possible solutions
  • Create and deliver a compelling presentation to a non-profit client that incorporates valuable insights, trends, and recommendations

Qualifications

  • Ambitious undergraduate students with an interest in consulting, strategy, and non-profits. This program is for students who would like to understand the consulting profession while generating ideas to help impact non-profit organizations.

The Coca-Cola Foundation has partnered with National Geographic Society and The Nature Conservancy to provide scholars with unique access to a career-enhancing remote externship program during the summer of 2025.

This 8-week program aims to hone professional skills and foster meaningful change through collaboration with well-known organizations.

Scholars will cultivate storytelling and communication skills, transforming complex issues into actionable, community-focused initiatives. Alongside a network of industry leaders and peers, participants will not only impact global challenges but also build a strong professional network.

Additionally, Coca-Cola Scholars will have the exclusive opportunity to attend an in-person career development event, where they will further connect with professionals from National Geographic Society, The Nature Conservancy, Coca-Cola, and their peers.

The Experience

Throughout the Externship, you will learn about freshwater conservation careers through a series of weekly webinars featuring National Geographic Society and The Nature Conservancy experts. Complementing these insights, you'll conduct your own research and engage in informational interviews with professionals from local conservation organizations.

During this Externship, you will:

  • Learn how to effectively communicate by utilizing written and visual storytelling.
  • Network with a global community of leaders, experts, and like-minded peers.
  • Conduct analysis to identify challenges within your area and propose innovative solutions to address any issues you may uncover.
  • Develop strong research skills by employing primary and secondary research methods to investigate concerns within your local area.


Qualifications

We are seeking young people ages 18-25 from around the globe interested in enhancing their professional skills and broadening their horizons. No prior work experience or coursework in conservation or environmental topics is required. We are committed to selecting a cohort of young people of diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures.

Part-time and fully remote

This Externship is a 10-hour-per-week fully remote experience where all meetings and events are recorded.

Externship starts July 14, 2025

This remote Externship will last 8 weeks.

$500 Stipend

Students who successfully complete their externships will receive their educational stipends at the end of the program.
